All comments are welcome; Good and Bad. However, I can't imagine why anyone would want to post a bad comment about anything this beautiful!

Jim, the photo of the large red blooms...is that hibiscus? I have seen these but never found one exactly like it at any nursery. I want one bad. Please tell us where you got it.

Hi jod62427: I live in Oshawa,Ontario,Canada. My wife and I happened to be in Home Depots' Garden Centre about 3 weeks ago and saw these beautiful plants there. We must have picked up two dozen or more trying to choose the best one. The way this one is blooming, I'd say we made a good decision. Yes, this is a Hibiscus. It is a Hardy variety which means it is a Perennial. It needs winter protection much the same as a rose does. Another name for it is Moscheutos. The blooms on this plant are about 9" in diameter. Unfortunately shortly after we purchased the plant, Home Depot closed their Gardening Centre for the seaon. Otherwise, we were going to purchase a few more to plant on various wind-protected areas of our gardens in the front and the back of the house. They also need to be kept moderately moist . Maybe we can get some more next year. It depends on whether or not this one survives the winter here which can be quite cold. Check Home Depot in your area and ask if they have or had any in stock. You never know, you might get lucky! Good luck with your search and if I can be of any further assistance, please let me know. I'll do some research and see if they can be propagated from seed. You never know, maybe you'll get some in your Christmas stocking if it is possible! |
